María Pallares
is Programme Coordinator at
the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), Madrid.
Previously, she has worked as research fellow for
Notre Europe (Paris), the Rafael Campalans
Foundation (Barcelona) and as free-lance con-
sultant. She holds a Master in European Affairs
from Sciences Po., Paris.
Ana Belén Sánchez
is the coordinator of the
sustainability department at the Alternativas
Foundation. On this area, she has worked on the
renewable energy field, sustainable mobility plans,
environmental education as well as on
climate change policies at local, national and
international level. Over the last years she has ad-
vised on green jobs creation, climate change and
sustainability to the European Commission,
International Labour Organization and
Sustainlabour Foundation among other organiza-
tions. Before, as the climate change expert of the
International Labour Organization (ILO) she has
advised trade unions, employers’ organizations
and labour ministries in Latin America and Asia on
policies to promote the creation of green and de-
cent jobs. She also worked at the energy and cli-
mate change department of the Trade Union
Institute on Health and Environment (ISTAS) linked
to the Spanish trade union Comisiones Obreras.
She has taken part of the climate change negotia-
tions under the UN Framework Convention on
Climate Change (UNFCCC) since 2005 as well at
the negotiations process of the 2030 Agenda and
the Sustainable Development Goals.
Nicolás Sartorius.
A lawyer and journalist by
profession, Sartorius is Executive Vice-President of
the Fundación Alternativas. Imprisoned for sev-
eral years during the Franco dictatorship for his
trade union activities, he was co-founder of
Comisiones Obreras and member of the Spanish
Parliament for the Spanish Communist Party and
Izquierda Unida for several terms up until 1993.
He participated in social and political negotiations
during the Spanish Transition. Since that time, he
has devoted the greater part of his time to writ-
ing. He is a frequent contributor to newspapers

2013 to October 2015 President of Consultative
Commission on Industrial Change. From

Consumidores y Usuarios de España (UNCCUE),
representative of these entities in Consumers
International, and ACI Consumers Europe.
